Overview
As parents and family of George Washington Academy students, we play an important role in the day-to-day operations of the school. With our support in the lunchroom, playground and classrooms, teachers and other school staff are able to focus on their primary responsibilities without distractions, and thus can continue to provide the quality education we expect for our children. The school asks that each GWA family contribute a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer time during the school year. This service can take many forms, and opportunities will be communicated to you on a regular basis.
Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, volunteer hours will be tracked via an online application. The software being used will allow families to enter their own hours, and will generate monthly reports of hours served. Instructions for using the program will be published on this web site, as well as being posted next to the lobby computer.
When You Volunteer
When you arrive at the school as a volunteer, the basic steps to follow are:
- Locate the laptop computer in the lobby (to the left as you enter), and sign in.
- Pick up a volunteer ID tag at the front desk.
- Report to your volunteer service.
- When finished, turn in your ID tag and use the laptop to sign out.
If you forget to sign in our out, you may complete those steps from home via a Facebook account.
