Hello to the GWA family-

Once again it is carnival time of the year.  Mark your calendars for Sat. Oct. 24, 2009  --  11:00 to 3:00

There will be good food, auctions, games,  entertainment and an all new haunted hallway. This is a party you don’t want to miss. Volunteers are needed in all areas. Food booths, game booths and ticket sales.
This year we are having entertaining groups outside as well. If you have a performing group and would like to perform at our carnival contact Kelly Moshier at 215-4791 or 669-7925 We also still need donations for the silent auction, Raffle and business sponsors. All donations are tax deductible and all donations go towards your service hours for the school.

If you would like to be a business sponsor, your name will go on a sign that will be posted outside GWA for all to see for the rest of the year. The cost is $50.00 per business. This is a great and inexpensive way to advertise.

If you are interested in being involved in any way please contact: Kelly Moshier at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call me at 215-4791 or 669-7925
Remember, all of your help goes towards your service hours.

Hot Lunches and Snack Shack are up and running, but we can always use your volunteer hours! Also, Snack Shack pre-paid punch cards for $5 or $10 are a convenient way for your child to be able to get drinks or healthy snacks –available daily in the cafeteria from 11 am to 1 pm.  Call Erika Field for more info: 215-5952.

PTO President’s Message

Happy Fall! This is my favorite time of year as the weather begins to change and the anticipation of the Holiday Season is just ahead. Thanks to all of you for your support of our fundraising efforts with Sally Foster/ Cookie dough and our Book Fair. The final numbers aren’t in yet but we’ll be reporting them soon. We have the opportunity to help support many programs and events for GWA and our children and your support of those efforts is appreciated. The planning for the Fall Carnival is well under way and it’s going to be a great time for everyone. Invite your friends and family to join us for a great time – remember to SAVE THE DATE – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH from 11:00 – 3:00.
The lobby computer should be in place within the month and you’ll be able to record your volunteer hours there. We’ll be sending out instructions for entering your hours through your Facebook account from home.
Thanks so much for all of your support. See you at the Fall Carnival!!

Notes from the Office
Clarification of Pick-Up Procedures: Parents and Carpool drivers, If you need to pick up your students inside the school instead of waiting in the carpool line, go to the office window by 2:30 PM and ask for your child’s name or carpool name to be placed on the pick up call list.  After the office begins calling carpool names at 2:40 PM, please wait until 3:00 PM to pick up your child(ren).
Jackets and Outerwear: Please label your child’s jackets, sweaters and other apparel. We try to return lost items, but cannot do so if there is no name on the item. The lost and found is in the school kitchen.

Student Store
There is a need for volunteers to help with the student store. Not only do I need help staffing the store,  I am looking for suggestions for what items to “sell” in the store.  There is not a date set for the store this month yet, but we will be having it.  The hours are flexible and help is needed both mornings and afternoons.   Please contact me if you are able to help or have any suggestions, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Character Education
We are delighted to share with you that our students will participate in a “Pennies for Peace” campaign from Nov. 1-30. “Pennies for Peace” is a service-learning program designed to broaden our students’ cultural horizons, while teaching them about their capacities as philanthropists—one penny at a time.  How can a penny bring peace-it doesn’t buy much in our communities.  However, in the villages of Pakistan and Afghanistan, a penny can buy a pencil, start an education, and transform a life.

October Character Trait:Compassion

Please come to the Character Ed Assembly on  October 5, at 2:00.

Dive Into Reading

"Knowledge is free at the library. Just bring your own container. "
Unknown

This last month we had cause to celebrate in the school’s first character assembly. Our school library was dedicated to the honor of founder Tiffany White and is on it’s way to being open for Patriots to use soon.

You have met with your student’s teachers and hope you know what your student’s reading goals are for the year that will qualify them for the swim day in May. If you are not sure what the reading requirements are, please contact your student’s teacher. And, as always, read, read, read, read, and read some more.
